How to Turn Your iPad or iPhone into a DIY Light Box

I will be honest; this will work best if you have an iPad since it's a larger size, but it can work on an iPhone if you really want a lightbox and can't afford to get one. You won't need an app; everything is in your settings!

Step 1: Open Your Settings App

Step 2: Go to “Accessibility”

  • Scroll until you see “Guided Access.” Tap it!

Step 3: Turn On Guided Access

  • Switch it on
  • Set a passcode (you’ll need this to turn it off later)
  • Turn on “Accessibility Shortcut”
  • Set Auto-Lock to Never so your screen stays lit

Step 4: Add Guided Access to Your Control Center

  • Swipe down from the top right corner of your screen
  • Press and hold the screen
  • Tap “Add a Control”
  • Scroll and add “Guided Access”

Step 5: Turn It On!

  • Open the image or file you want to trace
  • Triple-click the side or home button (or tap it from your control center)
  • When the Guided Access screen pops up, tap “Options”
  • Turn OFF “Touch” so your screen won’t move while you’re tracing
  • Turn it on and there you have it, a free lightbox!
